You are trusting us with your life story. That deserves a plain answer rather than several pages of legal fog, so the short version comes first and the detail follows.
The short version
- Your writing and photographs belong to you. We do not sell them, and we do not show advertising.
- Nothing you write is public. It becomes readable by someone else only when you create a family link, and you can switch that off.
- To write with you, what you say is sent to our language-model provider. It is not used to train their models.
- You can export everything at any time, and you can delete your account and its contents from inside the app.
- Memoira is for adults. It is not designed for or directed at children.
Who we are
Memoira is operated by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME AND ADDRESS] ("Memoira", "we", "us"). If you have a question about anything here, write to support@archiva.info and a person will answer.
What we hold
| What | Why we have it |
|---|---|
| What you write — memories, chapters, titles, dedications, and your conversations with the companion | It is the product. Without it there is no book. |
| Photographs you add to chapters | So they appear in your book and in anything you export. |
| Voice recordings, when you choose to speak instead of type | Turned into text so it can go into your book. The audio is not kept after transcription. |
| Your name, as you gave it, and the email address from your Apple or Google sign-in | To put your name in the book and to identify your account. If you use Apple's private relay, we never see your real address. |
| Technical records — device type, app version, error reports, and the dates you used the app | To fix faults and to keep the service running. We do not use them to build a profile of you. |
| Subscription status | To know whether your subscription is active. Payment card details go to Apple, never to us — we never see them. |
How your writing is used to help you write
When the companion asks you a question or drafts a passage, the relevant part of what you have written is sent to our language-model provider, OpenAI, which processes it and returns the result. The same applies to speech: audio you record is sent to OpenAI to be turned into text.
Under the business terms that apply to us, OpenAI does not use this content to train its models. It may hold a copy for a limited period for safety monitoring before deleting it. We do not use your writing to train any model of our own, and we do not read your writing except where you specifically ask us for help with a problem, or where we are legally required to.
Who else touches your data
We keep this list short on purpose, and we use these companies only to run the service — never to advertise to you.
- OpenAI — writing assistance and speech-to-text, as described above.
- Railway — hosting for the service and its database.
- Cloudflare — storage for your photographs.
- Qdrant — the search index that lets the companion recall what you told it earlier.
- Resend — sending you the occasional necessary email.
- Sentry — automatic reports when something in the app breaks.
- Apple and RevenueCat — subscriptions and receipts.
These providers are located in the United States, and your information is stored and processed there. Where the law requires it, we rely on standard contractual clauses for that transfer.
Sharing with your family
A family link is unlisted: anyone holding it can read that book, and no one else can. It is not indexed by search engines. You can stop sharing at any time from the book's menu, and the old link stops working immediately.
How long we keep things
We keep what you have written for as long as your account exists, because that is the point of it. When you delete your account, your books, chapters, conversations and photographs are deleted from our systems, and from our backups within [30/60/90] days. Error reports and billing records are kept longer where the law requires it.
What you can do
- Take it with you. Export any book as a PDF, ePub or Word file, whenever you like, including after you stop paying.
- Delete it. Settings has a delete option that removes your account and everything in it. It cannot be undone.
- Correct it. Every word is editable — you are the author.
- Ask us. Depending on where you live you may also have the right to a copy of your data, to object to certain processing, or to complain to your local data protection authority. Write to us and we will help.
Security
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access to production systems is limited to the people who maintain them, and photographs are served only to people who are entitled to see them. No service can promise perfect security, and we will not pretend otherwise — but we will tell you promptly if something happens that affects you.
Children
Memoira is intended for adults writing their own lives. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16. If you believe a child has created an account, write to us and we will remove it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top always shows the current version.
